In this unit we learned about ionic bondings. We took the content that we learned from our previous units on electron rings and how electron rings need a certain amount of electrons in order for the atom to be stable. We then connected that knowledge to better understand how atoms can do this. This unit was our first introduction into bonding, so the content was relatively new. I did this unit in my old school, so I already knew a large portion of the content. One thing I did not learn in my old school was the fact that ionic bonding is very different to covalent because the atoms are not technically “bonded.” This means it is easier to split an ionically bonded molecule than it is a covalently bonded molecule.
